We are now entering our
8th year in the Angus Business! Starting with open heifers in 2005 our goal of having a cow herd of 30 has been
slow in developing...we have 19 producing cows at present. This year will be our first year to cull with the effort to
improve our genetic base. This will allow us to continue to produce bulls with the latest genetic potential. The technology
we have used over the years has allowed us to improve our EPD's dramatically. Our AI program has had the biggest impact on
our genetic improvement with embryo transfers beginning to play a bigger role every year. Also, DNA profiles are giving us
a better picture of what is under the "hide".
Circle D Farms still believes in a moderate sized cow (1250-1350 lbs.) that will
produce a 75 lb. calf each year. We strive to produce bulls that are ready to work the day they arrive at your farm. We choose
not to sell yearly bulls as we feel they have not had time to show us how good or bad they are. Our bulls are hand fed each
day; this allows us to be around them daily (bad attitude you're hamburger). They are weighed often so as to determine the
amount of feed necessary to produce an 1000-1200 lb. yearling bull. Phenotype is important, but solid EPD's are more
important in our view. For this reason our bulls are subjected to ultrasound tests and in many cases DNA profiles. Quality
bulls at a reasonable price is still our goal!
Circle D Farms has experienced many changes over the past 50+ years, however, one thing that never changes is the importance
of family. Our youngest daughter just got married and we are now looking forward to our oldest Granddaughter graduating with
her bachelors degree in May. Life is good!
